From what technically should have been called an “orientation day” for me as a Head Nurse became a “toxic first day” by the end of the morning shift. Our Head and Charge Nurses left me in the nurse’s station from 7am to 1pm after a brief explanation of what to do. So here’s a rundown of what happened today.
4 vacant beds = 4 possible admissions
Discharged 3 patients — which could only mean more patients to be decked from ER!
Admitted 2 new patients from the ER. The endorsing RIC was nice enough to give me enough time to fill up the first patient’s chart and Kardex before endorsing the second one. Almost forgot to inform out Nursing Assistant to prepare the bed -_-
Filled up a lot of logbooks. A lot.
Transferred 2 patients to periphery beds. Got all confused at the charts and the bed numbers and the directory. My head was already aching.
Bed 6 was missing. Where is he? Where is he? Oh, right. He’s out for KUB ultrasound and a cranial CT scan.
I’m not really good at this managerial stuff. But here’s to hoping that I’ll do better during the next two weeks. :)
